  5. The bees and the jar are symbols that symbolize choice of imprisonment. The bees are in the jar with the jar open but they arent escaping. Lily is living with problems in her life at home but is not escaping. I think this is very important!!!

  7. The deadly symbol for the novel Bodega Dreams was a gun because at the end the main character Bodega was trick into his death.vera was meeting up with her husband to tell him that she was going to leave him but the truth is that she was apart of the plan to kill the Bodega.Vera shot her husband that when Bodega call Nazario to clean up the mess.Thats when Nazario shot willie Bodega that was the plan along because Nazario was in love with Vera.so the gun represent betrayal and death.

  10. The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd

What important messages is the novel trying to explain?

The important message that the novel is trying to explain is how mothers' play a very important role in life, and especially during your childhood. In the novel, "The Secret Life of Bees" by Sue Monk Kidd, Lily lives a very unhappy and mysterious life trying to find about her mother's deadly past. Lily becomes more independent as time goes by and learns the true meaning about her mother. Also, this novel explains "karma". Lily's very stubborn and guilty father, T.Ray, at the end learns his lessons, and loses his daughterfor the simple fact of lying to her about her mother's past. This novel also shows how Lily deals with the irrationality of racism, in which Lily is a white girl and Rosaleen is a black woman.

What is another important main idea besides poverty? How does it effect the characters lives? (By Jeremy Rocha)

Another important main idea in A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith besides poverty and education would have to be gender, the diffrence between men and women. Throughout a good percent of the novel Betty Smith used childbirth to explain and describe the strength of women. Betty would describe all the men throughout ther novel as weak, irresponsible and incapable of being. This idea is just as important as poverty and education because it analyzes and explains the diffrent ways men and women can handel certain situations. The theme of gender affects Francies life because Katie sent Neeley to school before she sent Francie, Katie figured that she'll be strong and smart enough to find her own way into school.

  21. Bodega Dreams By Ernesto Quinonez

The theme in Bodega Dreams is if you want to succeed in life then its up to you to make that dream into a reality. Chino has a strong desire to live the american dream but, yet he still cannot separate himself from the other world which is familiar to him. He sees that the way to succeed but on the other hand he is surrounded by elements that makes him think that all of it is a waste of time.

  23. in the book bodega dreams i belive that opposites do attract one way or another for example chino thinks that gaining respect by standin up for your self is very brave but on the other hand sapo believes that standing up for your self is proving to others your toughness ....i guess they both have diffrent points of view that are good or bad. They could help each other out, and give each other that helping hand when needed with out a doubt.

What is a major theme in the book? How did it affect the main character (Chino)?

A major theme in the book is Love, Throughout the book we see how Chino struggles to make desicions in between his family and Bodega. Many times we see how the love for his wife and the baby they expecting stops him from doing things he knows might affect his relationship with his wife, the love for his family is the most important thing for him and also because of them is that he gets involved with bodega because he knows that with him he can offer his family a better life.

  29. In Sue Monk Kidd Secret Life of Bees the symbols help Lily become a better character because as Lily was encountered by the bees, she was able to have a more motivating character to find the next clue because the bees help lead Lily to the next secret about her mothers past.

  30. Throughout the novel The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, Sue uses alot of symbols that influence lily's life in a great matter. There are various symbols and these symbols not only help us view the story in different ways but it also helps us see through lily's eyes. Some symbols like the bees or The Black Mary, Lily uses them as a guide for her life. We see how she does as the bees do and she looks for help from the Black Mary. Other symbols Like Zach and May, which are just characters, helped Lily discover more about life and her potential. In my opinion, these symbols help her get through her difficult time and see life through a different pair of eyes. They give her hope and confidence.

Why is Chino always helping people, even if its not for something good?

Chino is always helping others because he believes that the same will be done for him when he needs it. Also because he is a good person despite the situations he gets himself into. He always has that side where he wants to do the right thing.

  32. A theme in the story Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quinonez is Power. The example I found that shows this was a theme in this story is after chino and his wife bianca's house was on fire and burning and Nazario walked out of the building and looked like a God. The fact that the author deliberately put this scene in the book show's he wanted to show how Nazario was by referring him to being a God or being God like.

  33. How is the theme of power carried out throughout the story? How can you relate to this theme? (Rebecca M. Period 4)

The theme of power is carried out throughout the story through the character William Irizarry (Willie Bodega).Bodega portrays himself as a powerful person in the streets. He does this through his associate Edwin Nazzario.Nazzario goes throughout the streets carrying out favors for Bodega. In return for Bodega's help the people he helps become loyal to him. This is a sign of power because people fear, respect, and devote their lives to Bodega in return for his help with housing them, putting them through school and feeding them. In book two, chapter three Bodega says "...if you see God he won't seem as powerful anymore", by saying this he was refering to himself as God, which means that he thinks of himself as a powerful person.

I can relate to this theme because living life as a teenager you have less power than those who are older than you. For instance, in school you can't do what you want to do, you have to follow rules. A person with power would be able to do what he/she pleases without having to obey the rules of others around them. A person with power is also looked up to and has the respect of everyone around them. Another thing that makes a person powerful is fear. A powerful person instills fear into those who are willing to follow them. This is necessary because if people fear you, they'll respect and obey your every command. I, on the other hand, do not have any of these traits which makes me powerless, like the main charater in the book, Chino, who doesn't really have a say when it comes to Bodega.

What is a major theme in the book? How did it affect the main character (Chino)?

One of the major theme in Bodega Dreams is Love. I choose this theme because Chino did everything he did for Blanca. Also Blanca's love showed Chino she cared. Her caring, made Chino think about everything before he did it.

Throughout the many symbols used by Sue Monk Kidd in the Secret Life of Bees. One symbol that mainly stands out were the bees. The Bees help guide Lily along the dark path of secrets to help her understand her mother's past. Without the bees there to guide Lily to the next clue, Lily would've never gotten far throughout the past of her mother in order to really understand what happend on that blurry day.

What is a major theme in the book? How did it affect the main character (Chino)?

A major theme in Bodega Dreams is decisions. The main Character, Chino is faced with many hard decisions. He has to decide whether he wants to listen to his wife Blanca and become successful on his own by going to school and working hard, or by working for Bodega. It's a hard decision because Blanca doesn't want anything to do with Drug Dealers. It would be the easy way out if Chino chooses to work for Bodega illegaly and Blanca would be very disapointed.

  37. What are some symbols represented in the novel "The Secret Life of Bees?"
    Team-Melissa,precious,and Radhames

A symbol that plays a big part in this Novel is bees because they were like Lily's angels they lead her to August house. The Bees were the ones who lead Lily's life to happiness once again. When the Bees first got there for one reason or another Lily wasn't ever scared of those bees even when Rosaleen told her Bees swamp before death. Lily still wasn't scared. Lily must have felt something harmless in the Bees when they got around her cause it only helped her more than ever to get the life she wanted and more. The Bees is the Symbol of freedom and happiness For Lily's future.
